Vent Glass Replacement

Whether your vehicle has a small fixed pane or an opening vent window, the exact glass and mounting need to be identified before replacement.

The little window is a separate job.

Vent glass is a term often used for a small pane near the front or edge of a side window. On some vehicles it is fixed; on others it pivots or opens. Its frame and seals can differ substantially from the main door glass.

Because names vary between vehicle designs, describe the pane’s position rather than relying on its name alone. Mention whether it is triangular, whether it opens, and whether its latch, hinge, or frame was damaged.

What helps us identify vent glass

  • The exact position: front or rear, driver or passenger side.
  • Whether the pane is fixed, hinged, or part of a larger assembly.
  • Any broken latch, damaged seal, or bent surrounding frame.
  • Vehicle year, model, body style, and VIN if available.

Glass and hardware need separate attention.

Replacing the pane may not resolve a damaged hinge or a worn seal. Older and less common window designs can also present part-availability questions. Describe any pre-existing rattles or leaks so the scope of the work can be discussed before scheduling.

A fixed panel toward the rear may be quarter glass replacement. For the main roll-down pane, see door glass replacement. Our side window replacement page explains how these different windows relate.

A couple of common questions

Does vent glass always open?

No. The name is sometimes used for small fixed panes as well. Whether yours opens is one of the details needed to identify the correct component.

Can you replace the seal as well?

Let us know if the seal is damaged or leaking. Part availability and the work required need to be checked for your vehicle; do not assume a glass replacement covers all hardware.
